Eric Stoltz started out as an actor in numerous films ('Mask', 'Little Women', 'Pulp Fiction'), plays ('Our Town', 'The Glass Menagerie'), and television shows.
After repeatedly working with such talented film-makers as Quentin Tarantino, Arthur Penn, and Peter Bogdanovich, he was inspired to learn more about directing. His first step was to become a Production Assistant on Cameron Crowe’s film ‘Say Anything’,where he worked with the infamous Jerry Ziesmer (the first A.D. on ‘Apocalypse Now’). Eric did four films with Jerry and his wife Suzanne, who graciously taught him the ins and outs of production.
In the 1990’s he began producing independent films, and to his delight, in 2001 he started directing shorts, films, and television.
As the directing producer of the CBS television show ’Madam Secretary’ (all six seasons) and ‘Bull’ (final two seasons), Mr. Stoltz oversaw the visual style, managed cast and crew, creatively interacted with the writers room and the actors, and directed 25 episodes.
His other television work spans the gamut of genres including multiple episodes of ‘glee’, ‘Boston Legal’,‘Grey's Anatomy’, ‘Nashville’, and many others.
Eric has also directed two feature films; ‘Class Rank’, starring Bruce Dern and Skyler Gisando, and ‘Confessions of a Teenage Jesus Jerk’, based on the novel by Tony DuShane. Both films deal with the subject of youth, loss and love - three of his favorite themes.
He received an Emmy nomination for his directorial debut, ‘My Horrible Year!’ for Paramount Classics, and a ‘Gold Lion’ at the Lions Health Awards in Cannes for his PSA ‘Mind Your Meds’. He also directed the short films ‘The Grand Design’ starring Frances Conroy, and ‘The Bulls’ starring Chris Pine.
He is a member of the Actors Studio, and a contributor to the books 'New York City Secrets' and 'Life Interrupted: The Unfinished Monologue’ by Spalding Gray, as well as the children's CD ‘The Philadelphia Chickens’.
Mr. Stoltz has been nominated for a Golden Globe, a Tony, an Emmy, a Spirit Award and a Grammy.
Known as a director that actors love to work with because of his ability to shape and coax their best possible performance, his greatest joy is finding fresh ways to bring the written word to life.
